Designing by the seat of your pants: The Fossil Experience

The Advertising Club of Dubuque welcomes Casey McGarr, Former Creative Director for Fossil Tins as he presents Designing by the seat of your pants: The Fossil Experience.

Ask any designer who Fossil is and they will be quick to reply: "Oh, they make those cool tins!" - Yep. And now you can meet one of those designers. In fact, one of the Creative Directors behind those metal design gems. Casey McGarr joined Fossil brands as the fourth designer in a department that now employs 150 designers. As former Creative Director, Casey will share his 9 year experience in those early days as Fossil designers and marketers pioneered a branding strategy that has become one of the most notable brand marketing strategies in consumer brands. Oh, and also you could buy a tin for $65.00 and get a watch for free.

Inky Lips Letterpress is where Casey currently spends a bunch of his creative time. Reverred for a "Hatch Show Print" poster quality, he designs and prints all kinds of cool stuff. You won't want to miss this luncheon!

President's Message
It's hard to believe this is my last newsletter as Ad Club President. We had a GREAT year. It could not have happened without the help of a great Board of Directors, those who volunteered on committees, and all that participated in the events and programs. All made this year a success!

Speaking of success, I am happy to report that AAF Dubuque was honored in the 9th District Club Achievement competition in Omaha a couple of weeks ago with the following awards. First Place; Club Management and Programs, Second Place; Communications, Public Service and Membership, Third Place; Education, Government Relations and Diversity. Great job to everyone who worked on these projects.

Congratulations to District Addy Award winners. Refinery Design received a Silver Addy Award, Mission Creative received two Silver Addy Awards. In the Student Category, Chris Read from Loras College received a Student Addy Silver and Matt Cesaretti from the University of Dubuque received a Student Addy Gold. Matt also received Best of Show in the student competition.

Don't miss this month's speaker on Thursday, May 8, featuring Casey McGarrr. Casey was former creative director for Fossil Tins. Casey's program is titled "Designing by the seat of your pants: The Fossil Experience." Sign up today, the jackpot is $20.

In closing, I want to say a final thank you to all Club members and to wish the best of luck to the 2008-09 Board of Directors. I know you'll do a fantastic job!

Thanks,

Bill
